The ABT 4640 allows the user to take height and stagger measurements of the OHL (over head line) using a Hilti PD-E Measurement Laser.
The laser is positioned at Eye-Level and features a 90º viewing prism, enabling the operator to see the desired cable and laser location marker at the same time in all weather conditions including bright sunshine. The rail Head to Cable Height reading is displayed on an LCD display, the value is compensated for the height offset of the laser, meaning that no on site calculation is required.
Cable stagger position is indicated on a scale on the lateral beam of the gauge. The horizontal beam folds down flat to the lateral beam for storage and transport.

The ABT 4640 Laser Height & Stagger Gauge is a folding, robust and lightweight tool for measurement of the height and stagger of overhead catenary wire (OHL).
As with all Abtus measurement gauges, the ABT4640 is manufactured from hard wearing and nonconductive GRP and offers a sprung foot ensuring improved user friendliness, repeatability and accuracy of measurements.
The ABT4640 utilises Hilti’s new IP65 rated PD-E Laser Range Meter for height measurements whilst stagger readings are displayed through an easy to read scale directly on top of the gauge body. SE readings are displayed digitally at the fixed foot end of the gauge.
A key feature of the ABT4640 is the ability for the user to quickly and accurately take measurements from a standing position. This both helps to reduce time on track and minimises user fatigue by reducing the repetitive bending motions experienced with other measurement products.
Provided with an Abtus protective bag the ABT4640 is easy to carry to and from site and through the simple folding mechanism requires minimal set-up time prior to use. The ABT4640 has been approved for use by Network Rail and is widely used both in the UK and Worldwide.
